Heres the scoop: It is almost impossible for women to "bulk up" when using weights unless you are really trying for it. With that said, the easiest and best ways to use weights (for the me
and the people I know anyway)is to go basic.
Squats and lunges of any kind, calf raises , side crunches [ pull down one arm as you lift that same leg], crunches, plies, shoulder presses, Power flyes [where you lie on your back, lift
your hips as high as you can and as you open/close or fly out your arms lift one knee towards them and push-ups [as you push up lift one arm up while holding weight] all while holding
weights.
There are several more easy and quick tone up workout out there, I just chose my favorite moves. I also bought the ankle/wrist weights for when I walk or bike. Those really do kick up the
calorie burn when you do cardio. They are also nice to use when you don't have any weights but you want to stretch or do the moves. Some of my favorite websites to get fitness information is
www.self.com, www.fitnessmagazine.com, and of course www.fitsugar.com.
I just bought "5-Factor Fitness" and I am in the 2nd week. I've always attempted weight training but never could stick with it. This program is totally different! There are 2 different
exercises per day, and 1 core exercise per day with 5 minutes of cardio before and after. For example one day is bicep curls, squats, and the basic crunch with a little bit of running before
and after to get the heart rate up. Every day is a different set up exercises, and every week changes the amount of reps and sets. It very easy to follow and I can truly feel every muscle in
my body aching a little (in a good way). All you need are dumbbells and a weight bench. I used to run a 5k every day and this is not only easier, but I feel like my metabolism is already
speeding up.
do you have a gym membership? if you do and they offer the Body classes, BodyPump is excellent! You work every major muscle group and have an instructor there to ensure proper form. I've
taken the class for years now and love the results!
