Yummilicious Banana Smoothiei've been surfing the web quite a lot these days looking at recipes and i've come across quite a number of recipes for fruit smoothies. unfortunately, while many of the recipes boast low cal, they forgo the flava!
seeing as i myself am soooo obsessed with finding the perfect low cal food that doesn't lose the taste at the same time, i decided to share a little tip that i picked up when i was working at the Coffeebean & Tealeaf a couple years back!
here's what you do when making a Banana Smoothie:
1)Select only very ripe bananas, peel, slice into chunks and freeze.
2)After 2-3hours (at least), bananas are ready to be used.
3)Add frozen bananas and non-fat millk (or for really low cal, use cold water)and (here's the tip) add a drop or two of vanilla flavouring!
4)Blend until smooth. Serve immediately.
for most coffee houses that serve smoothies, they usually add vanilla powders to their drinks. these powders are high in fat and sugar, and naturally, unwanted calories. it's also quite unneccessary too as those are calories you can and should avoid.
the recipe above, on the other hand, allows you to retain the "original" flavour of the smoothie, while cutting down on the calories! vanilla flavouring is quite strong tho, so a little goes a long way.
this same "formula" works great with all kinds of fruits and berries. my personal favourite: strawberries, bananas and a couple slices of kiwi!
so there you go folks! do share your thoughts and suggestions too, i love experimenting! (:
1928 Collection
So, I'm really wishing I had an abundance of bananas on hand right now ... And strawberries. A smoothie that I'm quite obsessed with at the moment is pumpkin. This would definitely have to be a treat though ... It's doesn't have the lowest amount of sugar and carbs ...
I just do:
1/3 cup pumpkin pie filling
1/2 cup skim milk
4 icecubes
1/2 tsp of both cinnamon and nutmeg
1/2 capful of pure vanilla extract
SO goooood. PLUS under 200 calories!
1oh mannnnn. Janners, you just made my tummy growl! lol. that sounds SO good, and easy too. i'll definitely keep that recipe! unfortunately for me, its SO tough to find pumpkin pie filling here, simply cos singaporeans aren't that big on pumpkins. so sad, but i'll keep looking, thanks for the lovely recipe! (:
2Yummmmmmmmmm im totally going to have to try that!!
3you gotta!
